How often have you thought to yourself, “I want to buy that outfit Taylor Swift is wearing, but I don’t know where she got it”? There’s a new app that you can use to find out what your favourite celeb is wearing!

Turning to celebrities

The app, called Craves, uses visual search tech to find clothing and accessories featured in photos. Craves was actually released last year as fashion finder where you could take a photo of someone’s clothing and it would tell you where it was from.

But after the app was unveiled, the team behind Craves figured out that its users were instantly drawn to one kind of style; celebrity fashion.

Parent company Slyce’s President Ted Mann revealed: “Every time a celebrity outfit was submitted to the app, engagement was off-the-charts… So we rebuilt Craves around this insight.”

New-look Craves

The new Craves basically shows you where you can buy items worn by celebrities! Tech Crunch explains that Craves lets you follow your favourite famous profiles, receiving notifications whenever said celebrity wears something new! Also, Craves allows you to tour the ‘virtual wardrobes’ of your favourite stars and follow fashion shops, brands and your friends.

Explaining how Craves works, the app’s Co-Founder Scott Cormier said: “Users can snap a photo from any magazine, screenshot from Instagram, or even take a picture of someone they see on TV. Craves will identify the clothing or accessories in the photo.” Craves currently features 35 celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham.

Find similar

Of course, Kim Kardashian does like to wear expensive clothing which may be a little out of your price range. But Craves has a ‘find similar’ button which finds similar items, without the expensive price tag. Just press the button and you’ll be greeted with a range of lookalike items at various prices, so you can find something that works with your budget!

So how good is Crave?

We’ve seen similar apps before, but it’s the tech that Craves uses to automate the fashion finding process that makes it such a unique app. Tech Crunch trialled the new-look Craves app by searching for Beyoncé’s US$1,445 Faith Connexion painted parka. It came back with both embroidered military jackets and military jackets in similar colours, but without embellishments. So it’s good but not perfect!

Great modelling tool

If you want to break into modelling, you might want to think about using something like Craves. What better way to catch the eye of a top modelling agency, than to build a portfolio featuring you rocking the latest trends? With Craves, you can find out what’s hot in fashion and where to get it!
