If you’re a fan of the 90s sitcom Friends (who isn’t) you’re about to get so excited! Luxe Models has heard that there’s going to be an entire festival dedicated to the epic TV show in London this September!!

Defining life moment

If you grew up in the 90s, Friends was the defining TV programme of your childhood/teenage years. When the show got started way back in 1994, it wasn’t long before Ross, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey worked their way into our hearts, where they’ve stayed ever since.

What Luxe Models has always loved about the perennially popular sitcom is that it both reflected 90s fashion, and had a major influence on it. The perfect example is the ‘Rachel’ haircut, which was sported by Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel in the second series of Friends. It became the most popular hair style of the mid-90s, and continues to influence hair trends to this very day.

Friends Fest

You might remember that when Friends finished in 2004, it quickly became a staple on E4, where it stayed for years. When its mammoth run on the Channel 4 offshoot ended, it went to Comedy Central UK, where its stayed ever since. The Telegraph has reported that Comedy Central UK has now found an amazing way to honour the 90s’ most popular TV programme.

Last week, Comedy Central announced that they’re going to hold a ‘Friends Fest,’ at the Boiler House in Brick Lane, London. The event, which is stated to take place 16th – 20th September, has been billed as the “ultimate Friends experience.” It’s an exhibition that will include a full-scale replica of Monica’s iconic apartment, sets/props from the show, and a pop up hair salon where people can get the ‘Rachel’ hair style!

Pop culture phenomenon

The tickets for Friends Fest went on sale at midday on Wednesday 12th August, and they sold out in minutes. People were not impressed, and many took to social media to express their outrage. One particularly angry use commented, “why give us tickets, take us to payment, then tell you the tickets have ‘ran out’? An absolute joke!!” Comedy Central UK has now announced that they’re going to provide more tickets for the apparently very popular event, according to Digital Spy.

The rush to buy Friends Fest tickets shows just how much of a pop culture phenomenon the 90s sitcom really was. The fact that we still care enough about Ross, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey to get excited about this festival shows just how much of an impact they had on all of our lives, as well as our wardrobe choices!
