Luxe Models love a feel-good story and we were delighted to hear about Madeline Stuart’s dream-come-true moment last week.
The 18 year-old Australian has Down syndrome and is looking to change people’s perceptions, after landing herself a modelling advertisement campaign with fitness brand Manifesta.
Social Media craze
Writing on her Facebook page, Stuart said: “I am now a successful model… Modelling is changing (society’s) view of people with Down syndrome, exposure is creating acceptance in life and inclusion.”
Manifesta said they were “incredibly excited” by how Stuart is “changing the face of modelling.”
“For years Madeline has fought against the struggles, both internal and external, that go along with Down syndrome. Through dance, swimming, and cheerleading she has worked to strengthen her heart and body. And through her modelling career, she has forced many to reconsider the conventional standards of beauty,” they said in a release.
For the last couple of years, Stuart has posted pictures online of herself modelling her own clothes, in the hope that she would be recognised and could launch a modelling career.
Her platform is this new ad campaign, where she is seen smiling and looking happy in the feel-good fitness gear which is designed to promote self-love. It guides its customers to shop by their own measurements – making Madeline perfect for the front of the campaign.
The confident, care-free young model surely has a bright future and is an inspiration to her own and various other generations.
The response has been positive globally, with Stuart receiving an outpouring of support on social media; she has over 39,000 followers on Instagram and her Facebook page counts over 386,000 likes.
Her mother, Roseanne, said: “People with Down syndrome can do anything, they just do it at their own pace. Give them the chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations.”
We will keep right up to date with young Madeline and we’re sure we will be seeing plenty more shoots with the inspiring Australian model. If changing perceptions is what she’s looking to do, she’s certainly started in the right way.
