Forbes’ annual list of the top 100 highest-paid celebrities has revealed that there is a new power couple at the top of the tree, Luxe explores which pair has raked in the biggest bucks in 2015.
Bey and Jay dethroned
Beyonce and Jay Z have held the crown since 2013 but they’ve been dethroned by the new couple on the block. Forbes reports that Taylor Swift and new partner Calvin Harris have slid into the top spot with combined earnings of $146 million over the last year. They earned $35.5 million more than Bey and Jay Z, whom came in second but just how did this new couple ascend to the top of the rankings so fast?
New power couple
Individually Swift and Harris both landed a spot in the top 20 on this year’s Celeb 100!
Taylor’s earnings over the last year are undoubtedly boosted by her hugely successful fifth studio album, 1989, which debuted in October 2014. 1989 moved 1.287 million copies in one week, the highest selling album since 2002. The 25-year-old singer recently embarked upon her 1989 world tour, with the secondary price of tickets averaging $315.41, according to Forbes.
Singer/producer, songwriter and DJ, Calvin Harris has had a very successful year himself. His endorsement deals with the likes of Giorgio Armani and Sol Republic headphones have made him one of the highest earning Brits on the planet. With careers that show no signs of slowing up, this duo may be setting themselves up for a longstanding place at the top.
Not far behind
Jay Z and Beyonce weren’t too far behind, though. According to Forbes, the two brought in $110.5 million over the past year thanks in part to ticket sales from their collaborative On the Run tour. They may no longer top the list of highest earning couples, but these media favourites have no trouble bringing in the millions.
In third place was country superstar couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, with combined earnings of $57 million. Yes, almost half the earnings of Jay Z and Beyonce! That shows how good a year Calvin and Taylor have had.
Shelton played more than 40 solo gigs on the road and was judge on The Voice US, coming second, whilst Lambert also had her biggest year yet. She won multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, including Female Vocalist, Song of the Year and Album of the Year for her hit record, Platinum.
They say money can’t buy love. But once you’ve got the love, the money doesn’t hurt. And it seems like if you’re looking for both, you should become a musician. Brangelina, you have been warned. Better start those cameras rolling.
