A girl has gone viral with a video that shows a dramatic makeup transformation. Luxe Models delves deeper.
Nikkie, a makeup artist from the Netherlands, runs her YouTube Channel ‘NikkieTutorials’ which gives weekly advice to girls when applying makeup. Whilst she normally gives specific tips on applying makeup and the benefits of doing so, but in this video took an interesting twist to show the difference – she only applied makeup to one side of her face. And the results were extraordinary.
She normally gets between 1 million and 3 million views on her videos, but this one has over 7,500,000 views. With makeup often perceived negatively by the media in Britain, this was a refreshing outlook on the benefits of makeup, including endless confidence and glamour.
In the video, she says: “I’ve been noticing a lot lately that girls have been ashamed to say that they love makeup. Nowadays, if you say you love makeup, people think you want to do it to look good for boys, you’re insecure or you don’t love yourself.
“I feel like lately, it’s almost a crime to love doing your makeup. I was inspired to show you the power of makeup.
Nikkie says that when she shows people her videos, most of them don’t believe that it’s her as she looks unrecognisable thanks to her makeup.
“If I don’t wear makeup and I have my hair in a bun and I show people pictures and videos of me, they look at me and straight-up tell me that it’s not me. They say it’s funny because I don’t even look like the girl on the picture.
“So without further ado, I’m going to do half of my face, full-on glam, I’m truly going to transform one side of my face… The other side is going to be me. Raw, unedited, nothing… me. Just me.”
She first adds her foundation which “makes (her) look ‘photoshopped’ without Photoshop” – Nikkie explains that that is why she loves it. Next she adds the concealer, which makes her “dark circles” disappear.
“I love brows – problem is, I don’t have them naturally. What’s the solution to that? Brow pencil.”
Positives to makeup
But Nikkie hastens to add that there is a difference between using makeup to feel more confident and have fun, and relying on it too much and being unable to be satisfied with yourself without it.
“By no means do I want to say that if you’re having security (issues) then you should just slap makeup on, feel better and never be content with your own self.
“I just want people to know that makeup is fun and there are no rules. If you want to go for the super-ass, do it. If you wanna go for the red lips and crazy bull eyes, do it. Makeup is there for those days when you wanna look ‘hella good’. That’s why I love the power of makeup.”
Nikkie showed tremendous bravery by allowing the world to see her with and without her makeup, which Luxe hope people can relate to and be able to have more fun with makeup rather than being afraid to wear too much or too little.
