Despite missing out on a Golden Globe on Sunday night, one thing up and coming star Lupita Nyong’o certainly isn’t missing is pitch perfect style! Reports were rife that both Prada and Gucci were fighting to dress Lupita for the awards show, but it was Ralph that won out in the end. And we’re very glad he did! Luxe Models were wowed by her spectacular poise and elegance as she graced the red carpet in a gorgeous caped gown, with many claiming she looked better in it than the runway model who wore it during the fashion show.
Really, a cape should never work, but as Lupita proved, even the strangest fashion concepts can be a hit if they’re worn the right way. With simple hair and under-stated jewellery, she really let the outfit speak for itself.
However, what made Lupita stand out the most was her modest confidence. 12 Years a Slave is her first movie role and she really seems to be revelling in her newfound fame in the nicest possible way. She was recently asked if she feels pressured to look good, to which she replied that she “only wears what speaks to her”, which we think is a really great philosophy on how to dress.
Despite the fact that she’s only been in the public sphere for around six months, Lupita is wowing the big fashion houses and has already secured herself an upcoming campaign with Mui Mui. She is also gracing the front cover of DuJour’s Great Performances issue this month and was turning heads in an eye-catching two-toned dress at the Film Critics Awards on Saturday.
We can only hope that come the time for the Oscars she’ll be parading whichever stunning gown she decides to wear up on stage having bagged the gong for her exquisite performance in 12 Years a Slave. We’ve got our fingers crossed!
